Tinubu Nominates Chukwuemeka Chukwu for Enugu REC Second Term Amid Senate Scrutiny

President Bola Tinubu has formally put forward Chukwuemeka Chukwu for a second term as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Enugu State, sending the nomination to the Senate for confirmation.

The president’s letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, cites Chukwu’s extensive experience and academic credentials, including his doctorate degree. Tinubu urged senators to expedite the confirmation process, stressing the importance of continuity at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following the submission, the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters has been tasked with screening Chukwu and reporting back within two weeks.

Other Key Federal Appointments

In a flurry of administrative approvals, President Tinubu also appointed board members and chairpersons for several federal agencies:

  • Bank of Agriculture (BOA): Muhammad Babangida as chairman, Ayo Sotinrin as managing director.
  • Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC): Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura remains as chair. Regional representatives include: 
  1. South East: Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem
  2. South South: Gift Ngo
  3. South West: Ibiwunmi Akinnola
  4. North East: Dr Meiro Mandara
  5. North West: Dr Abdu Imam Saulawa
  6. North Central: Professor Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro
  • National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF): Key board appointments confirmed.

All appointments are set for an initial term of four years, signaling Tinubu’s intent to stabilize leadership in critical government institutions.
